Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo:

SERIES FINALS SET FOR THIS WEEK

The second round of Spring Series events will wrap up this week. On Wednesday (April 24), it’s the Ruby Cook Memorial Series final for 3-year-old filly pacers. Muse La Rouge, trained by Michael Hitchcock, is 2-for-2 in the series and will look for the sweep. Dave Palone will drive the daughter of Captaintreacherous. On Thursday (April 25), the Margaret Provost Memorial Series will wrap up for sophomore filly trotters. Lexi B, a homebred Southwind Frank filly for the Burke Stable, is undefeated in the series and 3-for-4 in her brief career. She has drawn post seven in the field of seven.

SUCCESSFUL RETURN FOR PACER

Timeisonmyside, a sophomore by Captain Crunch, made a successful return to action at The Meadows this past Saturday (April 20). As a freshman, Timeisonmyside went 1-for-4, before shipping to PA for trainer Tim Twaddle and TheStable.ca. Since then, he has never lost. After winning a qualifier on January 9, he reeled off three straight wins in 1:56.4, 1:56.1 and 1:54.4, taking that lifetime mark on February 8. The gelding then took two months off, requalified a winner for driver Anthony MacDonald on April 16 in 1:58, before winning this past Saturday in a career-best 1:53.1 in a leg of the Tom Kirwan Memorial Series. Chris Lems drove the winner. Timeisonmyside, who will likely be the favorite in this Saturday’s final, has a strong pedigree. A $165,000 yearling, he is a half-brother to Fourever Boy, another top-level Twaddle trainee.

THIS WEEK’S SCHEDULE

We are now in our Spring racing schedule, with action four days per week – Wednesday through Saturday – at 12:45 p.m. The next change in the schedule will be Kentucky Derby Day, as The Meadows traditionally races at 11:30 a.m. on Triple Crown days.

STAKE RACING RETURNS MAY 4

Speaking of Derby Day, that will be the start of the 2024 Stake Racing schedule at The Meadows. Three-year-old colt pacers will be in action that day, in PA Sire Stake and PA Stallion Series races.
