Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo:
SCHEDULE CHANGE THIS WEEK
Hollywood Casino at The Meadows is now moving into its fall schedule, with live racing on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons this week. Post time is 12:45pm each day. The track has a scheduled maintenance break coming up, with no live racing from Saturday, September 19 through Monday, September 28. Qualifiers will be held on Tuesday, September 29, with live parimutuel racing resuming Wednesday, September 30.
WEDNESDAY FEATURE
The area’s top pacing mares will face off in Wednesday afternoon’s first race, the $19,000 Filly & Mare Open pace. Caviart Delight, trained by Virgil Morgan and driven by Dave Palone, has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite. The 4-year-old daughter of Always B Miki has won 6 of 16 starts this year. Her most recent Meadows mile was a 1:49.4 victory on August 13.
FAIR FINALS, PINK OUT NIGHT COMING NEXT MONTH
Friday night racing will return with a special card on Friday, October 9. That night will be the track’s annual Pink Out Night, and will feature the Pennsylvania Fair Finals. Post time for the special October 9 card will be 5:10pm.
SEVEN OF EIGHT STAKES SET RECORDS
This past Saturday’s Pennsylvania Stallion Series finals established local stake records for the event in seven of the eight divisions. The Meadows hosts the series finals once every three years. Celtic Wave (Captaintreacherous), trained by John Berger and driven by Corey Callahan, came the closest to an all-time track record, just missing the standard for freshman pacing geldings with a win in 1:50.4, 2/5 shy of the track record. Winnercircleseeker, a three-year-old Sweet Lou gelding, had the afternoon’s fastest mile, a 1:48.3 clocking in his Stallion Series final for sophomore pacers. Ronnie Wrenn, Jr drove for trainer Ron Burke.
