Miami Valley Mares Open produces upset winner

Lebanon, OH — After being used hard for the lead in a torrid three-wide battle during the first three-eighths of the mile in Thursday’s (Jan. 12) $30,000 Mares Open Handicap at Miami Valley on Thursday, Rose Run Vision emerged victorious, sealing a 20-1 upset.

Lee Loo (Sam Widger) bolted from midpack behind the starting gate to secure a ride along the pylons. She was quickly joined by Rose Run Vision (Brad Ferguson) and Alexa Skye (Trace Tetrick) until well past the :27.3 first quarter over a rain-soaked strip.

Ferguson and Rose Run Vision ultimately won the battle, but not until the field entered the second turn. The leader decided to leave even-money favorite Alexa Skye on the limb as they sped past the half in :55.1 and three-quarters in 1:24. While savvy handicappers expected the long shot to soften in the stretch, she never did! The 6-year-old daughter of Time To Roll persevered the length of the stretch and prevailed by a half length over Lee Loo, with Alexa Skye fighting fiercely to hold for third despite her unfortunate trip.
