Fort Washington, MD — Jared Moyer engineered a 21-1 upset with Mark Howard’s On The Cards N in Monday’s (Oct. 5) $12,000 Open Handicap Pace at Rosecroft Raceway, using a ground-saving trip to propel the 11-year-old to the 50th win of his career.

On The Cards N was an unhurried fourth as 3-5 favorite Icaco Hanover (driven by Russell Foster) and 4-5 second choice Don’tmesswithles (Fern Paquet Jr.) threw down in a :25.2 first-quarter duel, with Icaco Hanover clearing from his outside post 6 to control middle splits of :54.4 and 1:22.4. As Tignanello (William R. Carter) angled off the pegs from third to take aim at the top flight heading to the far turn, Moyer pushed On The Cards N forward to close the gap left at the inside. The open stretch became available to On The Cards N when Don’tmesswithles angled out of the pocket at the eighth pole, and the Bettor’s Delight-Funontherun gelding shifted gears at first asking to eclipse runner-up Don’tmesswithles by a half-length in 1:51. Icaco Hanover, who was engulfed with 70 yards remaining, finished third.
Willard Reynolds trains On The Cards N, who paid $45.40 to win.
