New Kent, VA — Reinsman Del S. Miller and trainer Jim Arledge, Jr. respectively connected for four driving and training victories apiece on Saturday night at Colonial Downs as opening weekend festivities continued. The duo first reached the winner’s circle in the third race with Get Back Jojo ($15.80), who took control at the top of the stretch and won going away by three and a half lengths. In the next race, Caviart Jackson ($3.40) won as expected in similar fashion. The six-year-old Towner’s Big Guy gelding took control just before the third fraction and crossed the wire in a seasonal mark of 1:53.4. After taking a one race hiatus, Two On Sam ($5.40) got the duo back on track with a wire-to-wire effort in 1:57, beating Sockit To Em Mel by two and a half lengths. In the finale, their three-year-old Perfect Art colt, Perfect Approach ($13.20), scooted past betting choice Firm Decision early in the stretch to capture the race in a life mark of 1:53.2. In the track’s United We Stand Trotting Series, 11 horses went postward in the first leg’s only division and the favorite did not disappoint. Yankee Calypso took the event in a life mark of 1:56.1 after cruising past Mi’s Arlene and Pricey Tag at the quarter pole, then never looking back. Dean Collins directed the Lindy Lane filly for trainer Manley Brown, Jr., who had a training triple in Friday’s opener. Duya Kid took second and Pricey Tag held on for third. The late closing series resumes next Saturday. Colonial Downs hosts a 10 race matinee card on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
