New York Sire Stakes headline Monday at Vernon

Vernon, NY — Progeny of Chapter Seven headline all four New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) events for 3-year-old trotters — two for each sex — on Memorial Day (Monday, May 29) at Vernon Downs.

The $59,200 first division for male trotters will feature two of the top trotters from a year ago making their sophomore debuts as the Marcus Melander-trained Crown (Brian Sears), a four-time winner as a rookie, meets Mark Harder pupil The Gruffalo (Jordan Stratton), who was the NYSS 2-year-old male trotting champion in 2022. Kilmister (Brian Sears) is the 5-2 morning line favorite in the $59,200 second divisions. The Marcus Melander trainee makes his 3-year-old debut after winning five races and making over $400,000 as a rookie.

Instagram Model (Scott Zeron) is the 2-1 morning line favorite in the $61,400 first division for trotting fillies. The Annie Stoebe trainee is making her 3-year-old debut after a five-win freshman campaign. Ruth Honig (Jordan Stratton) is the one to beat in the $60,300 second filly division. The Lucas Wallin pupil is one-for-two as a sophomore and owns four career victories.

The popular mini-horses return for a special exhibition race and will be on hand for a meet-and-greet at Heritage Park.

The all-stakes 12-race card also includes eight New York Excelsior A races. First post is 12:15 p.m.
