New York Sire Stakes trotters invade Vernon Monday

Vernon, NY — Vernon Downs will play host to two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for 3-year-old trotting fillies and three NYSS splits for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Monday (May 27).

R Melina (Tyler Buter) is the 3-2 morning line favorite in the $59,200 first division for the fillies. The daughter of Chapter Seven trained by John Butenschoen comes in off a NYSS win in her season debut at Yonkers last week. She owns eight career victories.

The Marcus Melander-trained Date Night Hanover (Dexter Dunn) looks to be the one to beat in the $58,100 second division for fillies. The filly by Chapter Seven has four career victories, including a win in the Kentucky Sire Stakes final as a freshman.

Super Duper Cooper (Jason Bartlett) is the 2-1 morning line favorite in the $39,233 first division for the boys. John Butenschoen trains the gelding by E L Titan, who is two-for-two in 2024 and has three career victories.

Victor Laszlo (Mark MacDonald) by Chapter Seven is the 2-1 morning line favorite in the $39,233 second division. After a winless freshman season, the colt has four wins in five starts this season.

Trainer George Ducharme sends out Keep Asking (Tyler Buter) as the 2-1 morning line favorite in the $39,233 third division. The colt by Chapter Seven has six career victories.

The 11-race Memorial Day matinee starts at 12:15 p.m.
