Night Pro and Manhardt to Michigan Hall of Fame

Lansing, MI – The Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association is excited to announce the 2022-3 Hall of Fame Equine inductees are Night Pro and Manhardt.

Night Pro, 13, by Pro Bono Best out of Midnight Jewel, who last raced in May of 2022 in the Northville Downs’ Open Pace, is being inducted into the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame. With career starts totaling 199, Night Pro captured 75 wins, 47 seconds and 15 thirds while accumulating purse earnings of $1,034,844. He established his lifetime mark at Hoosier Park of 1:49 and established track records at Hoosier Park and Northville Downs.

At Northville, he continues to hold the record for an Aged Pacing Horse of 1:52.1. Dale Decker purchased Night Pro as a yearling for $14,000 and he still owns and trains the horse today. Night Pro began breeding to mares in 2019 in Indiana and has sired foals in both Indiana and Michigan. As a 3-year-old, Night Pro had 15 wins (eight of them being consecutive wins that year). As a four-year-old, he was second in the Battle of Lake Erie beating out the likes of Foiled Again and he was third in the Jim Ewart Memorial, both Grand Circuit events.

The Myers family and Michigan lost a great one during 2022 that will be forever loved and missed. The late, great Manhardt was a Western Ideal Michigan and Ohio pacing sire. He has produced many great horses, with some of the best being Stride of Pride, 1:49.3 earning $456,909; Iwillmakeyousaywow, 1:49.3 earning $444,718; and a few others like, Hash Tag Swag, Girllookatthatbody, Libby’s Idea, Vicious Circle, My Tweed Heart, O’gradys First Man, Ask Me If I Care, and Man Don’t Forget Me. He sired a total of 71 foals, with 44 taking 2:00 records, 23 foals in 1:55 and total earnings of $5,343,261. Manhardt’s legacy will live on in his mares’ production of future foals. With great honor, we induct Manhardt, posthumously, to the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame.

The Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association will celebrate the achievements of standardbred horsemen, women and horses during the 2022 racing season and honor the Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame inductees during Saturday’s (Jan. 21) 2023 annual banquet and awards ceremony at Crystal Gardens in Howell, MI starting with the MHHA board meeting at 5 p.m. and awards ceremonies to begin at 7 p.m.
