Nominations for Next Generation races at Eldorado Scioto Downs are due May 1

Columbus, OH — Nominations for the $150,000 Next Generation races at Eldorado Scioto Downs are due May 1. The events, held on Saturday (July 1), are for 2-year-old Ohio-sired horses, with four divisions for each sex and gait combination.

Nominators purchase one of nine slots for $10,000 and do not need to name the horse until dropping in the box. If more than nine nominations are received for any one division, a lottery drawing will be held at Scioto Downs on Saturday (May 13). Nomination fees will be returned to owners that are unsuccessful in the lottery drawing.

Owners of entries may trade, sell or give away slots after May 13 until the time of declaration with a submission in writing by both parties to Scioto Downs. Trainers, owners and stables are limited to one entry/starter per division.

“The Next Generation was started in 2020 and got off to a great start with Charlie May winning the 2-year-old colt pace and still successfully racing as a 5-year-old,” said Jason Roth, Scioto’s Director of Racing. “This weekend was typically the first leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-olds and we moved those back a week to start the Next Generation.”

Full conditions for the event are available on the USTA website. Any questions about the Next Generation can be directed to the Scioto Downs race office at 614.295.4668.

The 90-day Scioto Downs live racing season kicks off on Thursday (May 11). The typical race schedule will be Tuesdays-Saturdays with first post of 3:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 5:50 p.m. for Thursdays-Saturdays.
