Nothing seems to stop Francesco Zet

The 5-year-old Swedish trotter Francesco Zet, trained by Daniel Redén and with Ôrjan Kihlström in the bike, won for the 17th time in a row Wednesday night (Aug. 16) at Solvalla.

Though Francesco Zet got a rough trip — he was parked out — he handily won the Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg Trophy over 1-5/16 miles in 1:53.2f (mile rate) by two lengths followed by Borups Victory with trainer/driver Daniel Wäjersten.

Francesco Zet, who is sired by Father Patrick, picked up the winner’s purse of $140,000 for owner Stall Zet.

The race was formerly known as the Jubilee Prize but was renamed the Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg Trophy in memory of the lady who died earlier this year and who meant so much to harness racing — not only in Sweden.

On the same card the European Championship for mares with a purse for the winner of $92,000 was raced. Here the cards were turned as the 5-year-old mare Great Skills, with trainer/driver Daniel Wäjersten, won easily followed by Daniel Redén-trained Glamorous Rain with Ôrjan Kihlström. Great Skills, who is sired by Ready Cash, won by four lengths, timed in 1:54f (mile rate).
