Edgerton, OH — The Attica Fair at Attica, Ohio played host to Ohio Fair Racing Conference action on Wednesday (Aug. 9) and Thursday (Aug. 10). Speed was the name of the game as many new track records were established.

Bugs MVP (My MVP-Char Catie Becca) got the record breaking started in the first race of the fair when the 2-year-old filly trotter stopped the timer in 2:07.3 to break the old mark of 2:09.3 set in 2014 by Jetterbug. Bugs MVP is owned by Johanna Beaver, Michael Carter, Joe Sbrocco, and Steven Zeehandelar with Chris Beaver doing the training and Cameron McCown picking up the winning drive.

Unfortunately for the connections of Bugs MVP, the record only stood for one race as Man The Keg (Manofmanymissions-Lucky Keg) came back in the second division to cover the Attica twice-around in 2:06. Scott Altizer is the owner-trainer-driver of the new holder of the 2-year-old filly trotting mark at the Attica Fair.

The record-setting resumed on Thursday in race six when John Konesky III steered Charming Cadet (Dejarmbro-Sasha Hall) to a mile in 2:03.1 to break the old overall trotting track record of 2:04, established by Robeline in 1993. Charming Cadet’s time also broke the old mark of 2:05.2 for 3-year-old colt trotters which was previously co-held by Diamond Dunn in 2015 and Noble Dunn in 2016. Konesky also trains Charming Cadet and co-owns him with his son Patrick.

Like Bugs MVP on Wednesday, Charming Cadet’s records only lasted for one race as DeKeyser (Dejarmbro-Pink Ribbons) trotted a mile in 2:01.2 in the second split of the 3-year-old colt trot. Chris Beaver trains the colt and also co-owns him with Synerco Ventures Inc. and Steven Zeehandelar. Cameron McCown was in the bike for the fastest trotting mile ever at Attica.

The final record of the meet came in the second division of the 3-year-old colt pace when Dancin Fever (Indian Fever-First To Cruise) set a new mark for sophomore pacers by touring the Attica oval in 1:59.2. The old record was 2:00.2 by Stride Of Pride in 2016. Bill Webb trains Dancin Fever and also co-owns him with the D and K Stables LLC. Mark Headworth was the winning driver behind the gelding. Dancin Fever’s mile was also the fastest in any pacing race at this year’s fair.

Cameron McCown was the leading driver for the week with six trips to the winner’s circle. Chris Beaver had four training wins to lead in that category.

Congratulations to the Speed Committee of Bill Ruffing, Greg Swartzmiller, and Courtney Stockmaster for putting on a great show. Also, a big thanks to Mark Ward and other members of the track crew for having the track in great shape for the record-setting miles. Last, but not least, thanks to Pam Weller for doing her usual great job of running the Speed Office.

Racing in the Ohio Fair Racing Conference will continue at the Henry County Fair in Napoleon on Tuesday (Aug. 15) and Wednesday (Aug. 16). Post time on Tuesday will be 6:30 p.m. with Wednesday’s races getting underway at 12 noon.
