Nichols, NY — P Chico and driver Bruce Aldrich Jr. captured the $10,000 featured trot at Tioga Downs on Saturday (Aug. 3).
Heavens Pic (Aaron Byron) grabbed the early lead, but P Chico ($18.00) took over just before hitting the quarter in :28.2. He used a :30 second quarter to be first to the half in :58.2. Betterinpinhurst (Braxten Boyd) came first-over from fourth going down the backstretch and got into second, but P Chico maintained his lead to three-quarters in 1:26.1.
Second-place finisher Betterinpinehurst came all-out at the leader as they reached the stretch, but P Chico shook him off and won in 1:55. Heavens Pic finished third.
P Chico is a 4-year-old gelding by Tactical Landing owned by José Cervantes and trained by Jenny Melander. It was his fourth win of the season. He now has eight career victories.
Joe Skowyra had a driving and training double, Braxten Boyd had a driving double, and Jenny Melander had a training double.
