Brooksforreal leads Virginia championship winners
Kelsey Wagner’s Brooksforreal won his ninth straight race in wire-to-wire fashion and track record time Sunday (Oct. 27) in the $90,975 Virginia Breeder’s divisional championship for 2-year-old male pacers at Shenandoah Downs.
Ballots mailed to District 4 members
Ballots for the USTA District 4A membership election were sent to all district members on Monday (Oct. 28). The seat for membership director for district 4A is currently held by Royal Roland. He is being challenged by Mary Carey-Kilburg and Dr. Marcia Harmelink.
Harrah’s Hoosier Park 2025 dates approved
The Indiana Horse Racing Commission approved Harrah’s Hoosier Park’s 2025 live racing dates during its Thursday (Oct. 24). The 2025 racing season will offer 160 days of live harness racing and take place from Friday, March 14, through Saturday, Nov. 29. Harrah’s Hoosier Park will retain its standard post times of 6:15 p.m. on weeknights and 7 p.m. for Saturdays.
Pick-5 carryover and guaranteed pool set for Monday at Yonkers
A 35-1 upset by Hat Trick Marleau in race nine on Friday night (Oct. 25) at MGM Yonkers Raceway was the catalyst to the Pick-5 not being hit. As a result, when racing resumes on Monday (Oct. 28), there will be a $4,069.42 carryover and a $15,000 guaranteed pool in the sequence.
Team Ryder stays in the spotlight at Philly
On Saturday (Oct. 26) night, trainer Chris Ryder, newly-elected to the Hall Of Fame, won a Breeders Crown race with the sensational mare Twin B Joe Fresh, who may have clinched the Horse of the Year title with the win. But no resting on laurels – on Sunday (Oct. 27) afternoon at Harrah’s Philadelphia, Ryder sent out the Cattlewash – Lispatty freshman colt Master Of The House, who won the $11,250 featured pace at the southeast Pennsylvania oval in 1:54.
Always Ek impressive winner of the Gran Premio dele Nazioni
Italian trotting has a new international star in 8-year-old Always Ek, trained by Alessandro Gocciadoro. A fortnight ago, Always Ek surprisingly won the Gran Premio Gaetano Turilli on the Italian Derby Day program.
