Monti grand slams at Batavia, reaches 2,500 wins
When Drew Monti won the first race at Batavia Downs on Friday (Oct. 4) night with Heavens Fury (2:00.4, $5.10), he reached a major milestone by registering the 2,500th win of his career, and he did it on his 30th birthday. The win was only the first of four that Monti had during the evening, putting an exclamation mark on his accomplishment. He also won with Hudsonandbernard (1:57.2, $9.90), I’m Already Gone (1:56.4, $6.10) and Seasiderocket (1:58.4, $7.20).
Red Mile makes its first appearance on national television for the Kentucky Futurity
On Sunday (Oct. 6) The Red Mile celebrates the culmination of the famed one-mile oval’s 150th anniversary season by placing itself upon on the network television scene in a new agreement with the Fox Sports family in conjunction with the New York Racing Association (NYRA). The iconic red clay facility, where many of harness racing’s historic moments have transpired, will enter the annals of the sport yet again by presenting the Kentucky Futurity, the final jewel in the Trotting Triple Crown, to households across the country for the first time since 1987 when the Breeders Crown was on ESPN.

Big Box Hanover takes second straight Plainridge Open
Although he just won in this class last week, being handicapped with post eight dissuaded the bettors away from Big Box Hanover who was sent off at 24-1 on Friday (Oct. 4) at Plainridge Park. Steady handling from Scott Zeron helped keep Memento Mori flat gaited as he catapulted off a pocket ride to post the fastest mile ever by a 2-year-old trotting gelding in winning the second of four divisions for the $320,000 International Stallion Stakes, for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings, on Friday (Oct. 4) at The Red Mile.
