Philly ‘three-peat’ for equine Larry Karr

Chester, PA — Ron Burke trainee Larry Karr ($5.60) captured his third straight win on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 3) at Harrah’s Philadelphia, cruising to a powerful 1:49.4 score in the day’s featured $18,000 top-level conditioned pace.

Dexter Dunn sent the 4-year-old A Rocknroll Dance gelding clear of Rockapelo (Tim Tetrick) through a sharp :26.2 first quarter and the pair maintained a healthy pace thereafter. After reeling off a :54.4 half, Larry Karr used a :26.4 third sectional to extend his lead over Rockapelo to four lengths into the final turn, and he continued to edge away in the stretch.

Larry Karr claimed his 17th career victory by a widening 4-1/2 lengths over Hayden Hanover (Marcus Miller), who emerged late to take runner-up honors over Rockapelo.

The human Larry Karr shares ownership in the equine athlete of the same name with the Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Frank Baldachino.

Racing returns to Harrah’s Philadelphia on Wednesday (Nov. 6); first post is 12:25 p.m.
