Vernon, NY — Pirate Hanover (Aaron Byron) captured the $8,500 featured Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday (October 5).
Primo Uomo (Leon Bailey) took the early lead but Pirate Hanover ($2.50) went on by and led to the quarter in :26.4. They slowed things down with a :29 second quarter to be first to the half in :55.4. Pirate Hanover continued to control things and led to three-quarters in 1:23.3.
As they reached the stretch second place finisher Primo Uomo and third place finisher Galactic Storm (Jimmy Whittemore) went all out after the leader but Pirate Hanover was too strong and won easily in 1:51.0.
Pirate Hanover is a 6-year-old horse by Captaintreacherous. He is owned and trained by Byron. It was his eighth win this season and his 17th career victory.
Jimmy Whittemore had a driving grand slam. He got his wins with Moolah Hanover, Illini Jetset, Keg Party, and Mask On Mask Off.
