Columbus, OH — Pleasent “Plez” Bruno, 70, died Jan. 6, 2025.
Mr. Bruno was born in Mantaguto, Italy. He came to the United States at the age of 10 with his family, and soon discovered his love of horses. He trained Standardbreds for many years at the Hemlock Fairgrounds, including a few favorites: Knight’s Tim, M J Sneakers, Connie Jo, Earl’s Choice, and Johanna’s Big Boy.
In recent years he worked at Batavia Downs as assistant race secretary. He was also presiding judge for various County Fair races through New York. Most recently, he drove the starting car for Buffalo Raceway and Batavia Downs.
Mr. Bruno enjoyed to tinker and could fix things from lawnmowers to cars, and anything in between. He made furniture from Adirondack chairs to corn hole boards.
But by far his biggest joy was his family, especially his “Baby” Jojo and his wife Patty.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patty; daughter, Johanna; brother, Joe (Patty); sister, Nicki (Mike) Collins; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michele and Concette.
Friends may call Tuesday (Jan. 14) from 3-6 p.m. at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 W. Main St., Caledonia, where his funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MaryLand: A Haven for Horses, 8132 W. Bergen Rd., LeRoy, NY 14482.
