Monticello, NY – The lone division of the $108,300 New York Sire Stakes for freshman pacing colts & geldings saw Primacy Station establish a new Monticello Raceway track record of 1:53.4 for 2-year-old colts & geldings on Monday (July 27).
Primacy Station (driven by Matt Kakaley) was first away from the gate and led the field through an opening quarter of :28.1 before Rose Run Cowboy (Yannick Gingras) moved from third to take the lead at the half in :57.
Maries Jet (Jason Bartlett) came first over at the 5/8 marker to be second behind Rose Run Cowboy still setting the tempo of 1:25.2 through three-quarters of a mile. Turning for home, Primacy Station was still third behind those two.
Primacy Station ignored the passing lane and instead moved outside and passed rivals in mid-stretch to finish in 1:53.4, a length and a quarter in front of Rose Run Cowboy with Marie’s Jet holding on for third. Primacy Station paid $8.06 to win.
Primacy Station is the son of American Ideal-Preeminance and is trained by Travis Alexander for owners Alexander Racing Stable LLC, CMT Farms, EVM Racing LLC and James Scarpias. It was his first Sire Stakes victory and third win in four starts increasing his career earnings to $77,374.
In four divisions of $20,000 Excelsior action for 2-year-old colts and geldings, Gingras won with Bacchus Blue Chip (American Ideal-Sunnyseventyfive) for Ron Burke in 1:55.1 and paid $6.14 to win; Bartlett won twice for trainer Hunter Oakes with Babylon Blue Chip (Huntsville-Onassis Blue Chip, $3.58) and Blast Blue Chip (Shadow Play-Shaka Blue Chip, $2.80); and Kakaley guided Alexander-trained Takes Courage (American Courage-Norinoro Hanover) to the winner’s circle and a $6.92 payout.
Jason Bartlett and Matt Kakaley each had a driving doubles. Trainers Travis Alexander and Hunter Oaks also each had a pair of wins.
Among breeders, Bluechip Farms had a banner day with four winners with two of those sired by American Ideal and one each by Shadow Play and American Courage.
