Vernon Downs, NY – Primo Uomo (Jeff Gregory) captured the $8,500 featured Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday (Aug. 22).
Primo Uomo ($3.74) headed straight to the front and led to the quarter in :27.2. He used a :28.4 second quarter to coast to the half in :56.1. He was in total command to three quarters in 1:24.1.
As they reached the stretch, second place finisher Capt Jack Hanover gave everything he had but Primo Uomo was too tough and won easily in 151.3. Bluesville (Ron Harp finished third.
Primo Uomo is a 6-year-old gelding by Heston Blue Chip. He is trained by David Dewhurst for owners Chris and Dale Lawton. It was his eighth win in 2026. He now has 39 career victories.
Bryan Quevedo and Jeff Gregory had driving doubles. Edwin Quevedo had a training double.
