Quaker State Fair Association meeting held

by Susan Brickell

Hershey Lodge was the site of the annual meeting of the Quaker State Fair Association in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Fair Convention on Thursday (Jan. 23).

Bedford County Fair will again host both Quaker State and Pennsylvania Sire Stake races. Due to the continued financial support of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association and Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association, harness racing will take place at 16 fairs and the Quakers will be raced at all but Bloomsburg.

Quaker officials for 2014 include President Jeff Firmstone, vice-president John McMullen, Secretary and Quaker State Fair Fund administrator Susan Brickell and recording secretary Jeanne Urban, assisted by Jerry Conners.

Please note Quaker nomination fees are due March 15 and have been increased to $50.

The May sustaining payment remains $50 and entry fees will increase to $50. All nomination, sustaining and entry fees go directly into Quaker purses. There is no administration fee.

Please forward March fees to Susan Brickell, 11631 Imperial Oaks Blvd, New Port Richey, FL 34654. May payments should be sent to Susan Brickell, 893 Nashville Road, Rochester Mills, PA 15771. All checks should be made out to Quaker State Fair Fund.

Nomination forms can be found in Hoof Beats, Horsemen and Fair World and at the Pennsylvania Fair Harness Horsemen’s website at www.pafairharness.com.
