Bangor, ME – Readyfortheladys was more than ready for a spotlight dance at Bangor Raceway on Wednesday (July 8) as the 8-year-old daughter of Always A Virgin soared to an insistent sort of score while securing the 30th win of her career with regular driver Andy Harrington calling the shots.
Leaving aggressively from post one, Harrington left little doubt in the minds of his fellow teamsters that they would be forced into a robust game of catch-me-if-you-can as he hustled his charge to an early three-length advantage while sashaying to the quarter-pole in a heady :28.2.
A strategic second-panel breather permitted the field to tighten up a bit while a tempo change to 3/4-time allowed the leaders to waltz to the half in an adequate :58.3. But as Bo Steven (McGwire Sowers) attempted to cut in during a double-time back-stretch march, a :58.1 back-half offered the perfect amount of discouragement, as Harrington closed out Readyfortheladys’ dance card, while ensuring the 1/2-length victory over the jilted wallflower, Bo Steven.
Trained by Sarah Harrington for owner Kallie Clark, Readyfortheladys returned $5.20 to win while stopping the clock in a seasonal best 1:56.4.
“He’s my little sister’s pet” Clark explained, “We got him in September of last year and we didn’t have a great start with him but this year he’s really picked up the pieces and has been going along for us”.
The driving win was one of three on the card for Harrington who also engineered a deep second overall rally to capitalize on a substantial drop in class with Chasing Goosebumps (1:57, $15), before jousting early to secure a pocket-pouncing, deep stretch score with Art Of Endurance (1:56.4, $9.60).
Live harness racing at Bangor Raceway during the month of July will be conducted on a two-day-per-week schedule, featuring the return of the popular Sunday matinees with the early 12:10 pm (EDT) post time. The Wednesday cards will go to post at 3:00 pm.
