Lexington, KY — The Red Mile is set to showcase their final night session of the season on Sunday (Sept. 15) featuring $3.4 million in purses and a rare 20-cent Pick-8 wager covering all eight $400,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series finals (races 3-10).
The Pick-8 offering is further enhanced with a $10,000 guaranteed pool and a 15% takeout.
Vice president of racing operations Gabe Prewitt said, “We invite all members of the ‘SendItIn Army’ to enjoy our final nighttime festivities of this season on track, at their favorite simulcasting venue or their home as we present a buffet of wagering options that should whet the appetites of our faithful followers.”
There are several other guaranteed pools on the Sunday night card, including a $5,000 guaranteed pool on the 20-cent Pick-6 beginning in the first race (15% takeout); a $10,000 guaranteed pool on the 50-cent Pick-5, which starts in the fourth race (12% takeout); and a $20,000 guaranteed Pick-4 pool covering races 6-9 (carryover $3,580, 12% takeout). A pair of 20 cent Super-Hi-5 events are also on the docket, each with a 15% takeout.
Some rapidly developing rivalries make the Pick-8 an interesting offering, beginning in the opening leg in the third race, for 2-year-old pacing colts as Sippononsearoc, Lou Print and American all sport sub-1:50 marks. In the fifth race, for juvenile pacing fillies, three of the entrants — Unreasonable, Miki And Minnie and Looksgoodinloulou — are looking the 1:50 mile right in the eye, as well.
The 2-year-old trotting fillies event looks to be wide open as Luna Lovegood, Yo Tillie and Perfect Annie have all been victorious in the KYSS legs leading up to tonight’s $400,000 finale with newcomer R Dutchess a sharply-closing second in her only KYSS start with several other fillies hitting the board as well along the way. Trotting colts and gelding complete the 2-year-old cast with Chat Room, Go Dog Go and Blank all KYSS leg winners and Gaslight Hall graduating from a win in the Wildcat to earn a spot in the final.
Of course, Hambletonian winner Karl is the headliner in his division for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings after holding off a determined bid from Secret Agent Man by a neck in his last start. Both have toyed with 1:50 clockings this season. The trotting filly division for 3-year-olds is a very evenly matched division in the form of Date Night Hanover, Woman Of Passion and Fannie Lipkowitz, all winners in KYSS legs.
The sophomore pacing fillies division is exploding with talent as It’s A Love Thing, Asweetbeachhere and Direction have all been leg winners with a host of others, including last year’s champion Geocentric, Bath Bomb, Fearless Bettor and Nerds Wish giving serious chase along the way. The $400,000 final for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings features an octet of talent, including KYSS leg winners Better Is Nice, Dancing Champion and Nuclear.
First post is set for 5:05 p.m. with the Red Mile buffet open at 4 p.m. with reservations highly suggested.
