Chester, PA — Steven Reisenweaver ripped to a 27-1 upset and Bruno Chiodo charged from off the speed to win their respective $7,500 American Harness Drivers Club divisions at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Sunday (Nov. 10).
Reisenweaver delivered pocket-sitter Gatsby to a 1:59.3 upset in the AHDC Trot.
He nestled behind pacesetter Ima Standup Guy (Joe Faraldo) to a :29.3 first quarter and stayed inside the garden spot as Infinite Zette (Frank Tsipouras) marched uncovered on the rim to pressure the leader to a :59.2 half.
Infinite Zette stalled in his challenge, and the field stacked as a result with Big Nudge (Anthony Verruso) angling three wide from second over and 1-5 favorite Velociraptor (Yogi Sheridan) moving four wide to three-quarters in 1:28.3.
Ima Standup Guy all the while clung to the lead and fought the wide charges, but Reisenweaver found room to send Gatsby forward with fresh legs and grabbed the win at the beam by a quarter-length. Livingontherail (Jacob Stillwell) closed from last for third and Big Nudge took fourth.
Reisenweaver owns and trains Gatsby, a 5-year-old gelding by Cantab Hall. He paid $56 to win.
Chiodo bolted from a ground-saving trip with Meet The Creeper to a 1:54.4 score in the AHDC Pace.
Chiodo landed in fourth while Allstar Cheddar (Sheridan) took the point and carved opening splits of :27.4 and :56.3. Hes Rockin Ralphie (Tsipouras) raced anxiously from the pocket and pounced past the half to take the lead while staying on the motor to three-quarters in 1:24.3.
Chiodo activated his charge coming for home and recouped a near five-length deficit to storm by Hes Rockin Ralphie and win by 1-3/4 lengths at the line. Master Miki (Geovany Hernandez), the 8-5 favorite, gave chase in third.
Stacy Chiodo trains Meet The Creeper, a 7-year-old gelding by Well Said, for owner Chiodo Racing. He paid $16.20 to win.
AHDC action resumes next Saturday (Nov. 16) with the next leg for the club’s fall trotting series at Freehold Raceway. First-race post time at Freehold is 12:30 p.m. (EST).
