Plainville, MA — A pair of $25,000 Open Handicap events were featured at Plainridge Park on Tuesday (July 28)
The top class trotters went postward first with Resolve To Win getting his eighth win of the year in a come-from-behind effort.
Resolve To Win (Bruce Ranger) got away fourth and watched as Pepper Wow (Mitchell Cushing) and Hey Porter (Brett Beckwith) argued for the front, with the latter taking control passing the :26.4 quarter. Once in command, Hey Porter reached the half in a moderate :56 as the challenges from behind started to come.
Resolve To Win moved first-over and was followed by Makeorbreakzaz A (Larry Stalbaum) as they approached three-quarters. Resolve To Win drew even with Hey Porter in the turn and started to get the best of the leader. As the group turned for home, Resolve To Win took the lead, but Makeorbreakzaz S went wide for the drive and started to push. Makeorbreakzaz S gained slightly, but Resolve To Win was on mission and finished strong on top by a length and won in 1:52.3.

Then later in the Distaff Open, Swedish Starlet N got her fourth win of the year after a furious stretch drive.
Swedish Starlet N (Matty Athearn) got away third as Soft Shot (Jay Randall) took the lead and set fast fractions of :25.4 and :54 to the half. That’s where Talk Curdy To Me (Brett Beckwith) pulled first-over from fourth and started to move towards the leader.
Talk Curdy To Me got to within a length of Soft Shot at three-quarters where Swedish Starlet N was then shuffled back to fifth, but things shook out around the last turn. Talk Curdy To Me drew closer to Soft Shot and Swedish Starlet N was able to get off the pegs and moved three-wide. Heading down the lane, Talk Curdy To Me did take the lead from Soft Shot, but Swedish Starlet flew by them both to win by a neck in 1:49 flat, setting a new lifetime mark.
Swedish Starlet N ($25.00) is owned by Tim Bojarski and Tony Gruppo and trained by Jimmy Nickerson.
Bruce Ranger scored a grand slam in the bike on Tuesday. Besides the already mentioned Resolve To Win, Ranger also won with Essential (1:54.3, $4.80), Mother’s Moni (1:53.3, $4.00) and Lindy Living (1:53.4, $2.20), all of which were trained by Domenico Cecere, whose hat trick made him the top trainer of the day.
