Columbus, OH — Richard D. (Rick) Finn, 64, of Crete Ill., died May 6, 2023, after a short but hard battle with cancer.
Mr. Finn, a native of Onley, Ill., born on Jan. 11, 1959, became a Standardbred owner in 1983, having owned and/or bred 74 horses throughout his career. He additionally drove the winners of 694 races and $2.1 million in purses dating to the 1970s while also harnessing 50 winners.
Mr. Finn is survived by his wife, Rikki Soteras-Finn; son, Richard S. (Bethany); two grandchildren, Lincoln and Harper; brothers, Randall, Fred, Merle (Marlene), Roy (Sarah) and Bobby; sister, Margie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen; sons, Glen Johnson and Shane; sister, Wanda; and his beloved dog, Carter.
A celebration of life will be held on June 20, 2023, in Newton, Ill., consisting of a picnic followed by a race dedication and memorial blanket presentation at the Jasper County Fairgrounds that evening. In September, at Hawthorne Race Course, an on-track ceremony will be held in his memory.
