Robert Leslie, 67, dies

Columbus, OH — Robert Edward Leslie, 67, died Jan. 18, 2024, at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 4, 1956, in Gloversville, N.Y., to his mother Lois Werle Leslie and the late Ronald Leslie.

Mr. Leslie was a proud graduate of Broadalbin High School, class of 1974. He excelled as an all-around athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track during his school years. His passion for sports extended into adulthood, where he became a self-employed Standardbred owner, trainer, and driver, operating the Robert Leslie Racing Stables in Saratoga Springs.

Beyond his professional pursuits, he had a zest for life. He found joy in motorcycle racing, deer hunting with his lucky gun, and the freedom of riding his Harley. He was an avid fan of San Francisco 49ers football and enjoyed the thrill of a good Thoroughbred race. His competitive spirit really showed when he played Pitch, his favorite card game, with his family and friends. Among his favorite pleasures were his favorite chocolate mayonnaise birthday cake, his sister’s blueberry pancakes and her homemade bread pudding.

He is survived by his loving mother, Lois A.; siblings, Christine E. (Donald) Ward, Donald G. (life partner, Wendy Perham), Charlene S. (George) Musolff and Lynne Kraeger (partner in life with his late brother John R.); and his cherished nieces and nephews, Michael (Amy) Ward, Michelle (Joe) Giardino, Heather, Casey, Brianna, Joshua Musolff, and Megan Musolff. He was also a beloved great uncle to Abigail Ward, Madison Giardino and Anderson Giardino. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald E.; and brother, John R.

Me. Leslie leaves behind many friends who will deeply miss his fun-loving spirit. His family and friends will miss his smile, laughter, and his heart of gold.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 24) at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte. 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Family and friends may pay their respects from 4-6 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at http://givenow.lls.org.
