Robert Twaddle, 96, dies

Columbus, OH — Robert ‘Bob’ Twaddle, 96, died peacefully Aug. 1, 2023, after a brief illness.

He was the loving father to Cindy and Tim (Sophia); proud grandfather to Jennifer, Jaclyn, Meadow, Lexi and Parker; cherished brother to Margaret Doresco; and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin; sister, Maureen; brother, Dennis; and his loving partner, Ruth Bradley.

Mr. Twaddle enjoyed owning some Standardbreds with his son Tim and was a lifelong fan of the sport.

Mr. Twaddle was raised in St. Catharines, Ontario, and was an accomplished athlete. He was an avid golfer and a founding member of the St. Catharines G&C Club, “Twentysome” group. He played hockey at an elite level and was the first St. Catharines native to lead a Junior A team in scoring. When he was not playing hockey, he was a baseball pitcher on the Brooklyn Dodgers farm team until a shoulder injury ended his pitching career.

He chose to return home and married Patricia Morris, and enjoyed a long and successful career at Thompson Products. Not one to remain idle, Mr. Twaddle worked for Calhoun Sportswear until his 80s after retiring from TRW. His strong work ethic was unparalleled and his word was his bond.

Mr. Twaddle was a true gentleman as well as a man’s man. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and are welcome.
