Saratoga Springs, NY — After finishing second in back-to-back installments of the Open Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel, Prairie Rocknroll put it all together for a 1:52.2 win in the $18,000 feature at the Spa on Saturday (May 30).
The Kyle Spagnola trainee flashed early speed before yielding for a two-hole journey behind last week’s winner, Humble A, who cruised through early splits of :27.1 and :56.2. Approaching the three-quarter pole, Billy Dobson popped the pocket with Prairie Rocknroll, who quickly surged to take the lead over the tiring Humble A on the final turn. The 5-year-old A Rocknroll Dance gelding threw down a :27.2 individually-timed final quarter to defeat long shot Imtheblackflash N (Chris Long), who shook loose late to finish second, by 1-1/4 lengths, while Mr McLaren N (Larry Stalbaum) closed from last to finish third.
Prairie Rockrnoll now owns three wins and two second-place finishes in his five seasonal starts for owner Laurie Poulin. He paid $4.40 to win as the 6-5 favorite.
Live racing at Saratoga continues on Sunday (May 31) and will feature a $2,653.50 carryover in the Pick-5, which comprises the first five races. First post is noon.
