Nichols, NY — Tioga Downs played host to two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for sophomore pacing fillies on Sunday (Aug. 23).
Favorite Savage Cindy (Leon Bailey) captured the $59,100 first division handily, crossing the wire 2-1/2 lengths in front.
Ideal Beauty Queen (Braxten Boyd) was first to the quarter in :26. Savage Cindy ($3.10) took over the lead with a circuit to go and led to the half in :53.3. She paced to three quarters in 1:21.
As they made the turn for home, Savage Cindy made it a race for the minors as she won easily in 1:49.4. Ideal Beauty Queen held on to finish second. Hunting Memories (Colin Kelly) fired late to get third.
Savage Cindy is a filly by Huntsville. She is owned by Scarlett Stables and trained by Cory Stratton. The victory was her fourth of the season and her sixth career tally.
Surreal Spirit (Jeff Gregory) charged late to take the $58,000 second division.
Odds On Monetary (Matt Kakaley) was first to the opening quarter in :27. She slowed things down with a :29.4 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.4. Surreal Spirit ($12.58) made her move heading to the final turn as Odds On Monetary led to three quarters in 1:25.1.
Surreal Spirit wrestled the lead away from the favorite in mid-stretch and stopped the clock in 1:52.2. Odds On Monetary had to settle for second best. Liberty Style (Jason Bartlett) finished third.
Surreal Spirit is a filly by So Surreal. She is trained by Gregory for owners Linda Mund, Ed and Carol Namiotka. It was her fifth win this season and her sixth career victory.
Leon Bailey scored a driving hat trick on the program, with Jason Bartlett, Collin Kelly, and Braxten each notching driving doubles. Jessica Okusko and Enrico Robinson turned in training doubles.
