Save the date for 2023-24 USTA district meetings/membership elections

Columbus, OH — The schedule for the 2023-24 district meetings has been released by the U.S. Trotting Association. The dates for the 13 districts, some of which are in-person and others virtual, may be found here.

USTA members are encouraged to attend their district meeting where they will be given the opportunity to discuss the 32 suggested USTA rule change proposals and hear timely information on a variety of topics specific to their district.

There will be two contested membership director elections for this year. In District 3, incumbent director David Siegel will be challenged by Sal DiMario, the Executive Director of the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association, who will be leaving that position in November. In District 6B, sitting director Dr. Andy Roberts will be opposed by Steve Stewart, owner (along with his wife, Cindy) of Hunterton Farm.

Two current USTA board members have notified the Association that they will not stand for reelection this year. They are Jay Cross in District 2 and Bruce Alexander in District 4. Cathy Webb (Ivy Lane Farm) will run unopposed for Mr. Cross’ seat, and Cathy Dessert, vice president of Minnesota Harness Racing Inc., will be the lone candidate to replace Mr. Alexander.

Ballots for the elections will be mailed to current USTA members of Districts 3 and 6B during the last week of October and must be returned to Plante Moran, the certified public accounting firm that will be used by the USTA for the tabulation of votes, in the return envelope provided. Ballots must be postmarked by Dec. 12, 2023, per Article 4, Section 2(g) of the Association bylaws, to be counted in the election.
