Schampus sets race record in German Trotting Derby

Berlin, Germany – Schampus with trainer/driver Josef Franzl won the German Trotting Derby in a new race record at the historic Mariendorf track in Berlin the 128 Deutsches Traber Derby over 1 3-16 mile with a total purse of 265.639 Euro.

The 4-year-old trotter won with trainer/driver Josef Franzl in the bike in a new race record of 1.54.4f (mile rate) – the old record was 1.55.4.

Schampus is sired by Propulsion, who stood at Deo Volente Farm in 2022, but is now in Finland.

Schampus is bred and owned by one of the oldest stud farms in Germany, the Lasbek Stud. This was the third Derby win for Lasbek. The first was back in 1966, second in 1967 and the third in 1989.

Schampus won beating Y Not Diamant (sired by Odessan Santana) with Robin Bakker by three-quarters of a length followed by the race favorite, Gio Cash with Dion Tesselaar.

The B-final was also won by a son to Propulsion. The winner was the Dutch-owned and – trained Duncan Laurence with Robbin Bot, trained by Erwin Bot, who won easy in 15.8.2 (mile rate).
