Monticello, NY – Yogi Sheridan overcame a shuffle with 7-5 favorite Shake N Bake to win the lone $8,500 dash of the North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) Trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday (July 29).
Leaving from post 2, Sheridan landed in the pocket behind pylon-starter Bontoni Degato S (driven by Scott Bako) while My Secret Ability (Joe Faraldo) pressed for the front to a :27.4 first quarter. My Secret Ability continued battling with Bontoni Degato S to a :57.2 half and to three-quarters in 1:28.2, at which point the backfield lifted into action. Pc Free Wheeling (Victoria Stratton) angled from second over to the three-wide path while Sheridan vacated the pylons with Shake N Bake to follow Stratton’s cover through the last turn. Shake N Bake then vaulted over the top spinning for home and kicked away for a two-length win chased by Baby Tao (Scott Keppler), who rallied from a ground-saving trip for second. Bontoni Degato S held third and Pc Free Wheeling took fourth.
Peter Pellegrino trains Shake N Bake, a 10-year-old gelding by Manofmanymissions, for owner Room4040 LLC Stables. He paid $4.64 to win.
NAADA action shifts back to Yonkers Raceway next Thursday (Aug. 6) for the eighth preliminary of the club’s summer series. First-race post time at Yonkers is 6:45 p.m. (EDT).
