Simpson pleads guilty to drug alteration, misbranding

Columbus, OH — Reports have surfaced that Standardbred horseman Brandon Simpson has pleaded guilty to claims of drug alternation and misbranding in conjunction with the doping ring brought to light in March 2020.

The Thoroughbred Daily News reported Thursday afternoon (April 20) that Simpson, 42, had purchased drugs in South Carolina and shipped them to a training center in New York for the purpose of enhancing racehorse performance. The unveiling of Simpson’s connection to the ring brings speculation of whether additional names will surface in conjunction with past indictments.

Simpson, an Illinois native who recorded his last purse starts in 2016, drove 1,643 winners and amassed 375 victories and nearly $4.2 million in purses as a trainer.
