After seven starts and one win in 2022, Smoking Jet was purchased by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, and Chris Page and immediately started to pay dividends.

The gelded son of Triumphant Caviar reeled off four straight wins for the new owners. Trainer Ron Burke said Smoking Jet took to the new training regimen.

“In our barn, horses are either going to excel with our program or they are going to wither in it. The ones that like it do really well because we do a lot of hard work.”

Smoking Jet won 16 of 38 starts and earned $245,685. The 16 wins included the Ohio Sires Stakes Veteran Championship Trot and the Tom Aldrich President’s Trot. Smoking Jet’s win total was tied for second in North America by a trotter.

Smoking Jet will be honored at the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association annual awards banquet Jan. 14 at the Hilton Columbus-Polaris in Columbus, Ohio.

The 2022 Ohio Horse of the Year will be announced at the annual awards banquet.
