Smoking Jet, Penpaperpaige Victorious In Dayton Features

Dayton, OH – The rainy weather seemed to have no restraint on Smoking Jet and Penpaperpaige, who were both Friday (Nov. 17) night Open Pace winners at Dayton Raceway.

Leaving from post five in the $25,000 Open Trot Smoking Jet and driver Chris Page made every pole a winning one, leading the field through fractions of :27.4, :56.4, 1:25 to a mile time of 1:53.4 to win by a length and three-quarters over Platinum As and Refined.

Smoking Jet is trained by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable Llc, Weaver Bruscemi Llc, and Chris Page. The victory was his 13th of 37 career wins as the 6-year-old son of Triumphant Caviar closes in on $600,000 in career earnings and now boasts ten Open victories in 2023.

With a brush and crush move it was Penpaperpaige to win the $25,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace. Leaving from post four, Penpaperpaige retreated off the car as a hot early duel between Alexa Skye and Kobes Gigi took place to the quarter in :27, to which Kobes Gigi would take over and lead the field to a half in :55 and three-quarters in 1:22.4 where Penpaperpaige would make a bold first up brush to swoop Kobes Gigi and take over to win in 1:51.1 by a length over Kobes Gigi and Lookatmyrapsheet.
