Tuesday’s (Aug. 18) Solvalla Yearling Sale set a record, averaging SEK 456,276—about $48,000 —per yearling. A total of 94 yearlings were sold, an increase of no less than 21% compared with last year and 8.7% higher than the previous auction record, set in 2024.

It seemed as if buyers needed a little time to warm up at the Solvalla Yearling Sale. Prices started out moderately—and there were also many buybacks—but then the sale accelerated, and no fewer than nine yearlings sold for SEK 1 million, approximately $105,200, or more.
The most expensive yearling was the colt The Ghan Boko, by Readly Express out of Frosted, who was knocked down for SEK 2.3 million, approximately $242,000, to AJ Select Equine AB.
The Ghan Boko is the dam’s second foal. She is by Father Patrick out of Boccono Dolce and is therefore a half-sister to the top mare Bond (sired by Southwind Frank), 1.50.4 – $1.4 million.
The second-highest price, at SEK 2.2 million, approximately $231,000, was paid for a three-quarter brother to this year’s Hambletonian Oaks winner, Nezuko Kamado (sired by Chapter Seven). The colt, Penser, is by Gimpanzee, and the buyer was SRF Stable.
The most expensive filly was, not surprisingly, Readly Express’s half-sister Rarity Pellini (sired by Walner), who sold for SEK 2 million, approximately $210,000, to Italian agent Gaetano Pezone.
In all, nine yearlings brought more than SEK 1 million, approximately $105,200.
The median price at this year’s auction rose to SEK 320,000, approximately $33,664, up from SEK 280,000, approximately $29,456.
