Southwind Amazon gets career win No. 127

Northville, MI — Southwind Amazon, the third winningest Standardbred of all time, captured his 127th career win in Saturday’s (May 20) featured $10,800 Open Pace at Northville Downs.

Southwind Amazon, driven by Art McIlmurray, made his return to the Michigan oval a winning one as he sat off the pace set by Jet’s Sureshot (Kim Pluta) and Go Dancing A (Kody Massey) before sweeping three-wide up the backstretch to grab command and opening up to win easily by 4-3/4 lengths in 1:54.1. Commander Bob closed well for second with Jason Merriman in tow and Catch Me Conrad and Lindsay Moen got up for third.

The Paul Holzman trainee pushed his career earnings to $1,443,917 and is now just one win behind Rambling Willie, who is the second winningest Standardbred of all time with 128 wins.

McIlmurray took home four driving wins on the night while Justin Irvine had a driving double.

Racing at Northville resumes next Friday (May 26) with first post of 7 p.m. Northville Downs hosts live racing every Friday and Saturday night through Sept. 30.
