Sovalla Saturday Recap

Bromma, Sweden – Following is a recap of major races from Sovalla in Sweden on Saturday (May 27).

Dexter Dunn and Ake Svanstedt at Solvalla

Dexter Dunn had three drives at Solvalla Saturday (May 27) and finished second with the German trotter Riet Hazelaar and third with USA-born Synergy in an elimination for the Sweden Cup.

In the final, Synergy and Dexter Dunn never found racing room and finished last.

Åke Svanstedt finished third twice with a cold-blooded trotter, Kavaleren, and with Pure Attack and sixth with Ballerina Indika.

Danish trotter Eric the Eel wins Harper Hanovers Lopp

The second richest race at Solvalla this weekend, Harper Hanovers Lopp, which is raced over approximately two miles with a purse for the winner of US$92,500, was won by the 7-year-old Danish trotter Eric the Eel (sired by Muscle Hill) with Swedish shooting star Magnus A. Djuse in the bike.

Eric the Eel, who is trained in France by Tomas Malmqvist, came from to behind to win by half a length and was timed in 1.56f (mile rate).

Second was Kentucky River with Per Nordström, who trotted most of the race without cover outside the leader, Imperatur Am who was driven by Magnus T. Gundersen

 

Italian trotters dominate the Sweden Cup at Solvalla

Bengurion Jet with trainer/driver Alessandro Gocciadoro won the Sweden Cup by a neck over Callmethebreeze, who is trained in France by Phillipe Allaire and with Gabriele Gelormini in the bike.

Bengurion Jet came from behind to win by a neck over Callmethebreeze – both timed in 1.51.3f.

For the second year in a row and for the third time since 2018, Italian top trainer and driver won the “little Elitlopp” at Solvalla with a purse for the winner of US$56,000.

Both Bengurion Jet as Callmethebreeze advanced to the final by finishing second in the eliminations.

And in addition to both being Italian and coming second in the eliminations, Bengurion Jet and Callmethebreeze are out of mares sired by Supergill.

Last year, Gocciadoro was second behind the winner Bepi Bi, a 6-year-old trotter sired by Maharajah and out of a mare by Supergill.

Dexter Dunn was driving Synergy in the Sweden Cup and was third in the elimination, but in the final, he never found racing room with Synergy, and finished last – but timed in 1.52.3.
