Madison, WI — Derek Bromac N was among 10 Standardbreds at this past weekend’s Midwest Horse Fair in Madison, Wis.
The New Zealand-bred gelding and winner of $266,000 was a favorite in the event’s prestigious Grand March Parade of breeds, donning his signature pink harness and zipping around the show ring at 25 years of age. The only Standardbred at the show in full harness, Derek Bromac N has been a fixture at the country’s largest three-day horse fair for the past 10 years.

Marking another milestone for the breed was retired trotter Splitsville, 16, who appeared in the fair’s Liberty Run as the first Standardbred in its 44-year history. Led to the ring by his owner, Paul Sawyer, his halter was removed and the winner of 56 races and nearly $400,000 took off at a gallop, showcasing the beauty of the breed in front of a cheering crowd.
The Midwest Horse Fair hosts nearly 400 horses and 40 breeds and will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2026.
