Svanstedt sweeps Simpson rookie trots

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Trainer-driver Åke Svanstedt put on another command performance in the John Simpson Sr. Memorial Stakes on Tuesday (Oct. 17) at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania. A day after winning with all three of his Simpson starters, Svanstedt swept all three $43,100 Super Bowl divisions, for 2-year old trotting colts and geldings.

What’s more amazing about this six-race stretch is that every one of the victories came courtesy of a pocket trip that Svanstedt worked out with each horse. His three 2-year-old trotting winners on Tuesday were Tony Adams S (1:56.2), Daiquri Hanover (1:55.2) and Coors Hanover (1:55.1).

There were also four $30,000 Simpson Hardie Hanover splits, for 3-year-old pacing fillies. Pennsylvania champion Odds On Hail Mary, trained by Linda Toscano and driven by Jason Bartlett, took the starring role in that class with an impressive victory in 1:51.1.

Simpson action continues Wednesday (Oct. 18) at Pocono with three divisions each of 2-year-old pacing fillies and 2-year-old trotting fillies. First post on the 14-race card is 1 p.m. (EDT).
