Bangor, ME – Bone-chilling rain, a stiff northerly wind, and temperatures hovering in the lower 40s heralded the arrival of the season’s third racing day at Bangor Raceway on Sunday (May 3). But as April turned to May, and with spring stubbornly refusing to make her first appearance in the state of Maine, Kevin Switzer Jr. turned up the heat on the competition in the gooey-going to score four driving wins over the course of the nine-race program.
Switzer launched his grand slam quest while keeping his driving colors relatively clean in the opener, claiming the front with the Richard Allaby-trained Rollin Doubles (2:01.4, $4), reaching the finish line a measured 1-1/2 lengths the best, as the 7-year-old son of Roll With Joe made his first start of the 2026 racing season a winning one.

The pike route, which produced six of the nine winners on Sunday, proved beneficial to the Switzer swagger a bit later in the program as he guided the James Dunn-trained General Ward (1:59.4, $7.80), to a devastatingly effective 2-1/4-length margin at the wire. The win marked the 40th career score for the classy 9-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere.
Switzer strived for the front once again as he rifled Allbullandknowbeef (2:00.2, $5) smartly off the car from post seven before settling for the two-hole trip after being beat to the point by the pole-sitting Pembroke Danny Boy (Heath Campbell). Patiently tracking, Switzer pounced powerfully from the pocket in mid-stretch, eventually surging to a 1-1/2-length final advantage, as the Ronald Dinsmore trained pacer secured his fourth win of the young season.
Switzer then returned to his front-end strategy as he capped his four-bagger, mounting a rousing romp with Holymotherofmoses (2:02, $2.40), who took full advantage of a strategic drop in class to secure her first win of the season for trainer Logan Lanpher.
Switzer soared into a first-place tie atop the Bangor Raceway leaderboard following his muddy Sunday frolic, joining Campbell, who enjoyed a driving double himself on Sunday, at the apex with seven seasonal scores apiece.
Other multiple winners on Sunday included driver Aaron Hall and trainers Steven Vafiades and Dunn, who each garnered two victories over the rain-drenched course.
In other Bangor news, wagering on the Bangor Raceway product remains at a keen level this season, with the total live handle for each of the first three sessions of the 2026 season vastly outdistancing the corresponding 2025 numbers. Sunday’s handle of $187,609 was the highest handle at Bangor since May 2, 2021.
