Schadels dominant in Hughesville (Pa.)
For the second straight week, the Pennsylvania Fair harness circuit set up shop at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds. Last week, Hughesville, Pa., hosted one of five “two-day” non-fair events enabled by legislation, and this Wednesday and Thursday (July 9 and 10), the Fair Sire Stakes horses raced the “fair proper” meeting.
Hughesville (Pa.) record book demolished
Three-year-old trotters and pacers took to the track Thursday (July 3) during a “Two-Day Meet” at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds, following the 2-year-old racing of the day before, and the sophomores put a battering on the local speed record book, the likes of which has seldom been seen at any Keystone State half-mile oval.

A total of $200,000 will be on the line at Hollywood Gaming at The Meadows on Friday (Oct. 11) as the Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes Championships will be contested on a card starting at 5:10 p.m. Each of eight divisions of stakes horses, earning their way into the Championships based on high finishes turned in through the summer on the fair circuit, will race for a purse of $25,000.

Plenty of action at Wattsburg (Pa.)
The sophomore Stay Hungry gelding Rose Run Zeke came within a fifth of a second of tying the all-age record at the Erie (Pa.) The record of 2:00.1 still resides with the 2-year-old male Venier Hanover and the 3-year-old male Midway Island.
Rookies make Meyersdale (Pa.) headlines
Two-year-olds were the stars of the show at the Somerset County Fairgrounds, in southwestern Pennsylvania, as the babies set two track records and produced the fastest mile of the two-day meet in Thursday’s (Aug. 15) action.
Streaks extended at Dayton (Pa.) fair
A major theme running through the two days of Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes at the Dayton Fairgrounds was the quantity of horses who already had a nice number of fair wins adding to their totals, especially on Wednesday (Aug. 14), when the 2-year-olds raced.
Good action at Honesdale (Pa.) — before the rain
The rains that have been plaguing harness racing all over in the last couple of weeks made their way to the Wayne County Fair, in this Honesdale, Pa., on Thursday (Aug. 8), forcing cancellation of the 3-year-old Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes action and also a free-for-all trot. But Wednesday (Aug. 7) produced plenty of quality action from 2-year-olds, and a track record-equaling mile in the free-for-all pace.
Freshmen, fillies among equine stars at Bedford (Pa.)
Two-year-olds and females took the lion’s share of the spotlight during the two-day Fair Sire Stakes meet at Bedford, Pa., on Tuesday (July 30) and Wednesday (July 31), with the freshman divisions all getting fair season’s records and fillies recording faster miles than their male counterparts in all four of the “A” Fair Sire Stakes classifications.
