Talespinner was a 1:58 winner in his Bridger Trotting Series division.
The victory was the second straight for the son of Conway Hall–Fairy Tale who had set a national season’s record of 1:57 in his career debut on July 26 at Mohawk.
In contrast to the colt’s first start, where he swept from ninth to first in the final half, Talespinner showed early speed this week in his C$20,000 split for driver Mario Baillargeon and cleared to the lead well before the opening marker of :29.3. Once on top, the speedy youngster kept a wide margin over his counterparts and eventually cruised to an effortless 1:58 tally. He used a :28.4 final quarter to win by nine lengths over Unabating who just edged out Air Stewart for the place spot.
Talespinner, a $100,000 yearling purchase who is now owned by Richard Berthiaume and trained by Ben Baillargeon, returned a popular $2.70 as the prohibitive favorite.
In the opening division, first-time starter Gotabgoodtoblucky weaved his way through traffic late for driver Paul MacDonell to score in 2:01.4. The son of Windsong’s Legacy–Jar Jar Binx rallied from sixth as the field turned for home to score by 1-1/4 lengths over Heshoots Hescores with Ravonah Hanover landing the show spot.
Gotabgoodtoblucky is an $8,000 Lexington Selected Sale yearling purchase who is trained by Michael Keeling for owner Karen Carroll. He returned $6.10 as the second choice in the wagering.
The Bridger Trotting Series will continue with second round action next Thursday night (August 12) at Mohawk.
