Fryeburg, ME – The historic stands at Maine’s Fryeburg Fair were packed to capacity on Saturday (Oct. 10) as fans turned out to cheer on the big horses when the field for the $15,000 renewal of the Mountain Skipper Invitational gathered at the iconic western Maine venue.
A select field of five invitational class pacers, all with hooves filled with hope, lined up for the start, but it was Tenzing Bromac N and driver Ron Cushing who ultimately strode triumphantly to the winner’s circle, after gallantly battling to an enticingly close finish timed in 1:54.2.

Leaving aggressively, as is his wont, Tenzing Bromac N was met by a stiff early challenge from Vel Letsroll South (driven by McGwire Sowers) as the field zoomed off into the first turn.
Jealously guarding his inside position, Sowers begrudgingly relented to Cushing’s early pressure, but only after stringing his foe to a brisk :28 quarter-pole clocking. Cushing then wrangled a breather for his charge after making the point, throttling down Tenzing Bromac N’s tempo and reaching the half in a reasonable :57.1, all while bristling attentively in anticipation of the expected back-half challenge.
That challenge materialized when So Rock N’ Roll (Kevin Switzer Jr.) took flight to the outside, necessitating a quick escalation in pace as Tenzing Bromac was pushed to the three-quarter pole in 1:25.3.
While So Rock N’ Roll idled in the outer flow and Tenzing Bromac N extended out to a 1-1/4 length advantage at the head of the lane, Switzer urged an unexpected burst of last-dash rally from his steed. And while the crowd roared in appreciation, So Rock N’ Roll closed through determined strides, only to be outdone by the final margin of a neck, as Tenzing Bromac N’s will to win proved the paramount point in the 2026 edition of the Mountain Skipper Invitational.
Tenzing Bromac N, a 9-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight, is trained by Heidi Cushing for owners Ron Cushing and Kevin Sywyk. The win was his eighth of the season and marked his 30th career trip down Victory Lane.
In other Fryeburg Fair news, Milliondollardream and driver Joey Mosher set a new divisional track record on Saturday, becoming the fastest older trotting mare to navigate the Fryeburg course after winning in a blazing 1:58. The effort eclipsed the former standard of 1:59.4 that was held since 2016 by Royal Hawaii and driver Drew Campbell.
The win was one of two on the program for Mosher, who was matched in Saturday’s win column by both Switzer and Aaron Hall.
The weeklong meeting at the Fryeburg Fair will conclude on Sunday (Oct. 11) with a nine-race program scheduled for an early noon post time.
