Timothy Dunlap, 65, dies

Columbus, OH — Timothy Earl Dunlap, 65, formerly of Batavia, N.Y., died Feb. 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Dunlap was a longtime Standardbred horseman.

“My father’s specialty was breaking yearlings; he had a great knack for it; he had the patience for it,” said his son Cody. “I remember as a young child traveling around New York state to all the fairs with him and watching him race. He was an amazing teacher as well.

“He had his own stable in Alden (NY); at any given time he always had 15 horses racing at Batavia, Buffalo, Vernon, Monticello, and Yonkers. And he went up to Canada quite a few times as well.”

According to U.S. Trotting Association statistics, Mr. Dunlap had 234 wins and $531,900 in purse earnings as a driver from 1977 through 2007 and 357 wins with $924,937 in earnings as a trainer from 1992 to 2007.

Mr. Dunlap is survived by his loving partner, Annette; son, Cody; daughter, Katie; grandson, Maverick; sisters, Dawn, Sandy (Rick), and Lori (Randy); brothers, John (Margaret) and Jamie (Chrissy); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Shirley; and sister, Debra.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
