Tom’s Twilight pulls a stunner after dark

Fort Washington, MD –  Tom’s Twilight has never been the fastest horse in the opening quarter of a harness race, but the son of Sweet Lou is usually one of the fastest at the end of a harness race.

Thursday night (March 14), driver Frank Milby sent his charge bravely after the favorite and pace-setter Itsallabouthfaith N, and in the final strides of a :27.7 last quarter to pull a 29-1 shocker in winning the $12,000 Open I pace at Rosecroft Raceway in 1:51.

Roger Hans trains the winner for breeder and owner Tom Cooke. It was one of two wins for Milby who also won at 19-1 with West Is Best for trainer Eric Foster and owner Eric Foster Jr.

Russell Foster drove four winners on the program as he also provided pari-mutuel value, as only five favorites won on the 14-race slate.

Captain Mikey, who won $89,897 as a 2-year-old two seasons ago, picked up his first win for his new connections as one the few favorites that won. Kerry Welty owns and trains the $100,000 Harrisburg Yearling by Captaintreacherous.

Foster rallied Always On Top for a win at 9-1, nipping Rocktavius by a head in a thrilling stretch duel. Trainer Brian Burton co-owns with Jason Burton as the son of Always B Miki won for the 11th time in 79 starts.

In the $10,000 Open II division, Business Director, owned by trainer Arty Foster III and Wanda May Saulsbury, went a huge effort first over for Foster as he held off Nuttin But Finesse who sat to his back second over, winning in 1:49.4. It was a new lifetime mark for the 5-year-old son of Art Director.

Foster closed out his grand slam with Full Send, who he fully sent down the highway from gate to wire in 1:51.4 for Chesapeake Equine Clinic and trainer Eli Scott Jr.

Eric Davis won twice for his Mom Janet Davis who had a training double. Slick Fella scored in Race three for owners Lisa Denison and Greg Dypsky, while in race five American Rock, now at age 12, won his 37th career race.

Dash leader Trae Porter won the opener with Too Soon BG for owner Mike Chaney and trainer Johnny Crites, and scored a win with Center Of It all for Pamela Wagner and leading trainer John Wagner.

Porter completed his hat trick with a scorching mile from Dalby Hanover who led from start to finish in 1:49.4 for trainer George Lange and owners Howard Taylor and Rising Stein Stables LLC.

Johnathan Ahle, who is right behind Porter in the standings, won twice on the night. Ahle won with Johnny Q for Mark Labbree and trainer Jason Bowers and guided Franzo to his 49th career win. TJ Lord owns and trains the 12-year-old son of Rockin Image who has been first or second in seven of nine starts so far this year.

Jared Moyer closed the card with a win aboard Fantastic Voyage for breeder and owner Dawn Amiss and trainer Deshawn Sample.

The Jackpot Hi-5 produced no winning tickets on Thursday and now stands at $20,561.62 for Tuesday night (March 19). Post time is 7:15 p.m.
