Top Swedish trotters retired to stud

Two of Sweden’s top trotters, Calgary Games and Very Kronos, have raced for the last time, according to reports that surfaced Thursday (Nov. 16).

Calgary Games, who was undefeated in a short career in Sweden as a 3-and 4-year-old, made a break in his first and only race abroad, the Criterium Continental at Vincennes last Christmas, and has not been seen racing since.

Until now, owner-trainer Timo Nurmos’ plan had been to bring Calgary Games back to racing.

Calgary Games, sired by Readly Express, has stood at stud since 2022 and has been extremely popular. He had a full book in Sweden in 2022 and 2023, and his book is full and closed for 2024, during which he will stand at Menhammar Stud.

In The United States, Calgary Games was bred to 35 mares in 2022 and 25 in 2023.

Calgary Games raced only 11 times and won 10 races, took a mark of 1.55.2f (mile rate over 2,100 meters) and earned $630,000.

Very Kronos, sired by Ready Cash, has raced 62 times, has 29 wins, earnings of $695,000, and a mark of 1.53.4f. Among his wins are the Swedish Championship for elder trotters and the Sundsvall Open Trot.
