Twin B Joe Fresh dispenses of rival Strong Poison at Red Mile

Lexington, KY — Defending Kentucky champion Twin B Joe Fresh used a :25.4 last panel to outlast familiar rival Strong Poison in a lifetime best 1:48.2 in Tuesday’s (Aug. 8) $80,000 second-round Kentucky Championship Series event for 3-year-old pacing fillies at the Red Mile.

Twin B Joe Fresh and pilot Dexter Dunn were content to settle in fourth after beginning the mile from post position seven while Always B Naughty (David Miller) established fractions of :27.1, :54.4 and 1:22.1 with Strong Poison (Yannick Gingras) tracking in second. Twin B Joe Fresh, who nearly equaled Warrawee Ubeaut’s 1:48.3 world record for a freshman filly pacer over this same surface last year, overhauled Always B Naughty entering the stretch and paced strongly to the wire to hold Strong Poison 1-3/4 lengths at bay. Cultured (Scott Zeron) finished third.

Twin B Joe Fresh, a daughter of Roll With Joe, is owned by trainer Chris Ryder in partnership with Dunn, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. The Brittany Farms-bred filly boosted her bankroll to $786,748, improved her lifetime record to 17-12-3-1, and paid $2.70 to win.

Darby Creek upsets in Commonwealth Series

It required every inch of the red clay oval for 47-1 shot Darby Creek and driver Austin Hanners to collar Diamondsnpearls, but the daughter of Downbytheseaside did exactly that to stop the clock in 1:51.3 in the $30,000 second-round Kentucky Commonwealth Series event. Hungry For Love was another head back in third for a rousing finish to the line.

Brian Brown trains Darby Creek, who paid $97.78 to win, for owners Donald Robinson, Michael Robinson, Robert Mondillo and Rich Lombardo Racing.

Keep My Secret and Freshen Up take Goldenrod Series Divisions

Keep My Secret and Tony Hall rebounded from a dull fifth-place effort at Eldorado Scioto Downs to score in a new lifetime best of 1:50.3 in the first of two $15,000 divisions of the Goldenrod Series for trainer Anette Lorentzon. Freshen Up provided Dunn and Ryder with one of two victories on the 13-race card in the other division, winning in 1:51.3.

The Red Mile races on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons with a 1 p.m. EDT post time. Free program pages and race replays are available at redmileracing.com.
