Vernon, NY — Unusual Clarity (Ron Harp) captured the $5,500 featured fillies and mares pace at Vernon Downs on Thursday (Aug. 27).
Girl Nellie (Joe Nassimos) grabbed the lead and led to the opening quarter in :27.1. She used a :29.2 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.3. The Hunt Is On (Frank Affrunti) came first-uo to challenge and battled for the lead heading around the final turn. Girl Nellie got there first in 1:26.2.
As they headed to the stretch, second-place finisher Girl Nellie held a short lead, but Unusual Clarity ($3.46) came flying late to secure her first win this season in 1:54.3. Ladysmith (Dylan Hauckabone-Miller) came charging late to finished third.
Unusual Clarity is an 11-year-old mare by Betterthancheddar. She is owned by Nicholas Gibides and trained by Harp. It was her 45th career win.
