At the Danish Derby Sale, held at Charlottenlund Racetrack outside Copenhagen in connection with the Copenhagen Cup, a filly yearling by Volume Eight became the sale’s most expensive horse.
Olivia Thai sold for approximately $52,100, and the buyer was the Finnish stable Sjöblom Racing, which is among the co-owners of several horses in the U.S., including Minoan, who finished third in the Hambletonian Stakes. Sjöblom Racing also was among the owners of Volume Eight during his racing career.
Olivia Thai’s dam is Thai Chelsea NO, a daughter of Muscle Hill out of the Grand Circuit-winning mare Bether Always (who is a half-sister to Cantab It All, the mother of Hambletonian Oaks winners All The Time and Hall of Famer Ariana G).
The most expensive colt, One High, by Calgary Games, sold for approximately $46,600. Denmark’s Poul K. Sørensen was the buyer.
The auction average was approximately $14,800 for 52 yearlings sold.
